IRS "Get My Payment" for COVID-19 Stimulus Cash Errors out on Foreign Address!

Amazon Let's say you are a U.S. citizen and you live abroad, and you qualify for the stimulus money, but you've waited a long time and still don't see your U.S. bank account being credited with that money. What do you do? Many people have tried entering every variation of their foreign street address and zip code but they always get an error and locked out of the system for 24 hours. How frustrating!

Follow these steps to get the status of your payment. This method will work even with a foreign street address and zip code or postal code.

Let's assume although you are a nonresident US citizen, you are eligible for the economic impact payment as a result of the Coronavirus.

Step 1

Go to the website https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment

Step 2

Use your street address from your 2019 tax return. Try the one free of punctuation marks. For example, instead of:

No.123, Ln. 456, Sec. 7, Neihu Rd., Neihu Dist.,

Use this street address instead:

NO123 LN 456 SEC 7 NEIHU RD NEIHU

In fact, copy it from the "Payment Voucher" section of your Turbo Tax PDF, which looks like an envelope.

Make sure you enter the foreign zip code in the "ZIP or Postal Code" text field, too. Mine is 114. Yours should be some number too. If your foreign address doesn't have a zip code, then skip it.

With any luck you'll get this message:
