[SOLVED] Remove Google Chrome Browser Redirect-To-Ads Virus on Windows in MINUTES!

Amazon If you use the Google Chrome web browser on a Windows PC, you may fall into victim of the infamous redirect-to-ad virus, which keeps redirecting your active tab to some advertisement webpage like planet49.com. Whenever you open a tab and type in the URL, the tab loads the URL, but as soon as it's done loading it, it automatically loads some random advertisement website. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it does not happen. When it happens, there's nothing you can do to stop it.

I am using Windows 7, but my solution is likely to work on any Windows machine.

If your browser is infected with this malicious program that loads unwanted webpages, do NOT try any of the anti-virus software applications on the Internet because most likely they will not be effective, or worse, they are viruses in disguise to lure you in.

So what can you do to remove the computer virus that keeps making your Google Chrome web browser load advertisement URLs? Follow this tutorial and you will remove this Google browser's redirect virus malware in minutes.

I followed https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/8091?hl=en to no avail. Also, resetting the browser settings and disabling extensions did not work for me.

Solution

The solution is simple. Do a full, clean re-installation of Google Chrome web browser. Follow these steps to achieve this goal.

Step 0

Back up important data associated with your Chrome such as bookmarks, extensions, Tampermonkey scripts. It is easy to back them up and import them into the new Chrome installation. If you find it hard to do, let me know so I can help you.

Step 1

Go to Control Panel -> Uninstall a program.

Step 2

Select "Google Chrome" in the program list and click the Uninstall button. You can also right-click on the program to find Uninstallation in the context menu.

Step 3

Delete the entire folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome or C:\Program Files\Google\Chrome depending on your system. This is the key step in removing the virus as the virus is hidden somewhere in this folder.

Step 4

Download and install the latest version of Google Chrome web browser. In my case, the latest version was 42.0.2311.135 m.

Restart your Chrome and hopefully this nasty virus is gone once these steps have been completed.
